Porsche has recently come up with a special edition 911 called the 911 Sally Carrera edition.

Pixar is known for its incredible animated movies, which capture the heart and mind of the audience. The studio is famous for giving emotions to lifeless objects and making them come alive in the form of amazing movies. One of their best projects came in 2002 in the name of ‘Cars’. A film that made its way into the hearts of every automobile enthusiast due to its fantastic storyline and the crazy number of cars it had in it. Porsche and Pixar studio have collaborated together and made a one-off special edition Porsche 911 called the Sally carrera edition to bring back the good memories of the movie and also in the name of charity.

Although the changes to the vehicle have only been restricted to cosmetics underneath and the new exterior happens to be a standard Porsche 911 GTS. There are no mechanical changes to the car, which means it still comes with a fantastic manual gearbox and a 3-liter flat-six engine.

A Noble Cause

Porsche and Pixar had come full circle regarding design inspiration, as initially, when the movie was drafted, Pixar Studios had taken inspiration from the 2002 Porsche 911. Two decades later, the film character is now accepted as a design inspiration for the current generation Porsche 911. The goal was not to copy-paste from the original design but to make a street-legal vehicle that could be easily recognizable as one of the movie characters. Since the car will be auctioned and the proceeds will go towards charity, whoever owns this vehicle will have a piece of heritage that will most likely never be created ever again.

As per Porsche, all proceeds will be donated to Girls Inc and USA for UNHCR, UN Refugee Agency, to support those in need. Girls Inc happens to be a nonprofit organization that serves girls between the ages of 5 and 18 and helps them with the tools and support needed to do better in life and overcome challenges; USA for UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, an NGO working to help the many refugees forced to flee Ukraine as a result of Russian aggression. Nonprofit evaluator charity navigator has awarded Girls Inc. a top rating of four stars. USA for UNHCR meanwhile has achieved just two stars.

The Pixar-Inspired Design

The design remains very identical to the 911 GTS but features some Easter eggs. That happens to be a metallic blue paint scheme which is exclusive to this model. The masses found a unique set of wheels on the 996 generation of the 911 Porsche. Although the design for the wheels is identical, there happens to be an offset. The front measures 21 inches, while the ones at the back are 21 inches too. There is a little badge on the B pillar of the vehicle which has Sally Carrera’s signature. A small pinstripe design is revealed when the spoiler deploys; this is another design element inspired by the movie character’s tattoo. The Cars logo also appears on the seat’s tire valve stem caps, door panels, and sides. The special edition magic continues on the inside as well. The unique paint scheme of metallic blue is found on the dashboard, door sills, and center console. Porsche has used a special cloth trim with a plaid pattern and blue highlights for the seats and door panels. The use of chalk-colored leather offers an excellent contrast to the interior. The steering wheel has a center marker right in the middle, which is also finished in metallic blue. The standard 911 GTS has a boost function, which has been replaced by ‘Kachow Mode’ in this particular card. This is a nod to the film wherein this phrase meant going faster.

A Potent Powertrain Underneath The Skin

Under the beautiful exterior still lies a very fast Porsche 911. The vehicle uses a 3-liter flat-six engine with two turbochargers. The power output of 473 HP and torque output of 420 lb-ft is good enough to catapult the car from a standstill to 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds. These are awe-inspiring numbers because the vehicle comes with a 7-speed manual gearbox. Although the dual-clutch automatic vehicle version is marginally faster, getting the shifts right is a relatively simple task in this one. The vehicle comes with rear-wheel drive as standard, and a manual gearbox is also a no-cost option. The ride quality is stiff, but this also helps in higher cornering speed.

The 2022 Porsche 911 Sally carrera edition is indeed a special car, and it has been created with a noble cause in mind. The vehicle will be auctioned at the Monterey car week, and the highest bidder will also receive a matching watch, the cover for the car, and an extra set of wheels.
