Genesis

With its quiet ride, power doors, and brilliantly-engineered seats, the Genesis G90 is a vehicle that easily stands out from the crowd.

The G90 sedan, Genesis’ most luxurious model, has received a complete overhaul for 2023, with the new design bringing the sedan into the modern era of vehicles. One thing that makes the G90 stand out from the G80 sedan and GV80 SUV is that the 375 horsepower is delivered by a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 engine under the hood. As an alternative to the 5.0-liter V-8 engine provided in the 2022 model, a 409-hp version of the twin-turbo V-6 engine, which uses an electric supercharger to add power as needed, is offered too, and it is an upgraded engine from the previous model.

In both versions of the G90, the powertrains are smooth and quiet, which makes its cabin an atmosphere which encourages relaxation. To achieve this, a fragrance diffuser can be inserted on the dashboard, while an air purifier is used to prevent odors from outside from getting into the house. Four power-operated doors on all G90 models serve as a built-in valet, along with Nappa leather upholstery, genuine wood trim, and massaging front seats.

The Korean Spirit

The G90 has been revealed as Genesis’ flagship luxury sedan. The car packs a twin-turbocharged V-6 engine with two power levels, both of which are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive. The engine option has been skipped in favor of a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder. In the standard model, the twin-turbo V-6 engine produces 375 horsepower, while the E-supercharged engine produces 409 horsepower and uses the 48-volt hybrid system and an electric supercharger to boost the power output from the twin-turbo V-6 engine to 375 horsepower.

Using its more powerful engine under the hood, the G90 is able to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds, which is a fantastic time for a vehicle that is so large. The G90 is optionally available with an air suspension system, and it features a Chauffeur Driving Mode intended to make driving an extremely smooth experience for the passengers.

The air springs result in a superb ride and effortless acceleration. It may not be as crisply handled as a sports sedan, but the G90 can hold its own in corners. Indeed, enthusiasts may find little in the way of driving thrills in the G90. But for those seeking its relaxing demeanor over driving thrills, the G90 will prove satisfactory.

A Luxurious Abode

The G90 has also received a makeover, with a new design and high-quality materials that enable it to compete with rivals such as the Audi A8 and the BMW 7-series. As for the rear seats, Genesis has given them plenty of space, and several features are designed to enhance the overall experience. Onboard fragrance diffusers, for example, and antimicrobial sanitation systems that keep the air clean and work to keep things like smartphones hygienic.

Besides massaging seats, the front seats also feature a premium stereo system. The cabin of all models is extremely quiet because of active noise cancellation and the use of soft Nappa leather upholstery. Reclining rear seats and massagers are available too.

An optional 12.3-inch touchscreen serves as Genesis’ latest infotainment interface, which also offers navigation and SiriusXM satellite radio; a separate 12.3-inch screen serves as the digital gauge display. It also includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but they require a cord—a rather odd feature in this day and age of wireless connectivity. Bang and Olufsen stereo systems are standard on all models, but on the E-supercharged, 23-watt speakers are installed, along with a mode miming concert hall acoustics. Furthermore, the system includes a wireless charging pad for smartphones and a head-up display.

Cutting Corners

The model has an EPA rating of 18 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. The more powerful 409-hp powertrain drops those numbers to 17 mpg city and 24 mpg highway. The 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine powering the production model of this vehicle is mildly hybrid-assisted by an electric supercharger.

Buyers can expect to see the G90 2023 go on sale in the United States before the end of this year. Depending on the model, the price ranges from $89,495 to $99,795.
